| In addition to the supplies we brought we also took 80 Bibles. The Bible were in 4 boxes each weighing 20 pounds, about one pound per Bible. When we arrived at the airport to sort and assign the baggage, we discovered we had four boxes too many for the number of missionaries. Fortunately, Theresa had brought some of her extra mission equipment in a canvas duffel bag. We stuffed the Bibles into the canvas bag. We were home free...we thought. When we went to check-in, the duffel bag weighed a mere 138 pounds...only 38 pounds more than the maximum allowable weight for any one item. Removing two of the boxes of Bibles brought the weight below 100 pounds but it would have cost an additional $100 per box to take $40 worth of Bibles on the trip. After some pleading Mac and Dennis took the Bibles as a carry on saving the extra fee. The down side was the now 98 pound duffel bag was still heavy enough to cause a $100 surcharge (for being over 75 pounds). |
